There is no ignoring social Giant gaming provider Zynga who have been prominent in the news in the past months. We at scratch-fever cover them as a leading example of how they are planning their social gaming integration into real money gaming.

The balance between a fun social game and that of a softer social form of gambling like scratch cards is one which many find they get with online scratch cards.
As everybody in the online gambling world knows, the U.S. online gambling market has been shaken up  since last year when the main obstacle to Internet gambling was removed. With the Justice Department’s updated stance on the Wire Act of 1961, this in effect has meant it is open season for individual states to initiate online gambling legislation in the absence of the federal government doing do.

There is widespread consensus that the question has is no longer if but just a question of when internet gambling is formally legalized in the U.S.

In another sign of this impending change, Zynga is repeatedly planning to acquire online poker provider Ongame Network which is currently owned by online gambling leader Bwin.party.

Ongame is considered one of the industry leaders in B2B online poker solutions and boast over 20 million customers in over 25 countries. Some of their partners include Unibet, Betsson and bwin.

According to reports Zynga is one of four other companies bidding for Ongame but is understood that they are leading the process. Other gambling interests like the slot machine maker Shuffle Master recently offered $38.9 million way back in February but rescinded the offer last week.
Shuffle Master also reportedly wanted to pay out at least $10 million euros of the purchase price over 5 years and on condition that online poker is legalized on the U.S.

As we hour regular readers are aware Zynga has made their intentions to enter the real money gambling arena clear. Their current free-to-play casino games like Zynga Poker already have millions of loyal fans who I am sure would jump at the chance to play for real money given the possibility.
For the cynics out there there is also speculation that Zynga is planning to acquire Ongame as a sabotage tactic to their competitors looking to get a piece of the online poker market.

Whichever way you look at it the social element of gaming in encroaching more and more to the traditional gambling arena. As a dedicated online scratch card and slots site  , we are well aware of the social elements to many scratchies. Much thought goes into the development of online scratch games as there is awareness among scratch gaming developers to appeal to the social gambler.
Like many of Zynga’s free-to-play online games, scratch cards often give you the feeling of playing a social and not a heavy type gambling game.
