It seems there is not a day goes by where there is not some sort of social gaming company looking to cash in on the real money gambling market. Today a new partnership was announced between Zynga and RocketPlay in which they launched a joint-social sports betting app called Sports Casino which will be available both on Facebook and on Zynga.com

The timing is interesting especially for Zynga who are experiencing difficult times. Their share price has dropped drastically and there have been many high profile managers who have left the struggling social giant. As we reported there have even been calls from investors for CEO Mark Zynga to sell the company.
This latest partnership with the San-Francisco based social sports company will be another strategic addition to Zynga’s casino based social games like Zynga Poker and Slingo. Sports betting is huge in the U.S. and there is a good chance that it will become legalized in many states or even on a federal basis in the coming months.

On the other side of the coin RocketPlay also gain the experience of partnering up with the world’s largest social gaming giant. They too are without a doubt also hoping and perhaps even expecting the U.S. online gambling market to open up.

President of RocketPlay said in an interview,” Sports Casino delivers an authentic virtual sports-betting experience to social gaming and sports fans,” said Mani Honigstein, the chief executive officer of RocketPlay. “We’re thrilled to launch with Zynga’s support, a company that has set the social gaming benchmark and will help us bring a great game to a wide range of players.”

Sports Casino looks and feel exactly like real sports betting where you get the chance to bet on any global sports event with real-time odds. The only difference is that the currency exchanged is that of virtual currency and not of real money. Sports Casino is not limited to sports betting only and also includes slots, blackjack and video poker.

However like Zynga Poker these types of free-to-play gambling apps can be easily adapted into real money gambling apps as soon as the legal situation allows it. It is well worth noting that many of RocketPlay’s team include senior veterans from the real-money gambling world from companies like 888,Betfair and bwin.party. We look forward to seeing how this will impact on Zynga’s share price if at all.
