The most dramatic lifestyle change of our modern-day lifestyles is that of portable mobile devices like smartphones which are becoming the standard choice for mobile phone users and are fast replacing the standard mobile phone devices. This change has improved just about every sector of our lives and online gambling is an excellent example of this change. In the not so distant past in order to have a flutter on an online scratchcard or poker game one had to be tied down to a PC. With smartphones there are mobile scratch card and poker apps that enable us to be free of a PC and able to be constantly online wherever and whenever we choose.

With mobile scratch card apps one is now able to simply utilize one of the many mobile gambling apps and you are on your way to winning big bucks.
In the latest statistics released by Research Firm IDC, it confirms one again the Samsung and Apple are still the heavyweights in the fast-growing smartphone market. As anyone in the technology sector knows, the smartphone market is one of the most exciting and dynamic mobile technology sectors in the world.

According to IDC the overall smartphone market has grown over 42.1%  for the Q2 of 2012.This figure would be outstanding for any other sector but believe it or not this growth rate is the “lowest” since late 2009.This is just another indicator of how fast this market is indeed growing.

Overall global sales for smartphones have risen to 406 million units which is a slight increase from the 401.8 million during the same time in 2011.The top dog is currently Samsung who sold an incredible 50.2 million devices in the second quarter of 2012. This gives them a 32.6% market share. Samsung has recorded an unbelievable 172% increase from the same period in 2011 where they “only” held 17% of the market and “only” shipped 18.4 million smartphones.

The other heavyweight in the smartphone industry, Apple recorded higher smartphone sales but their overall market share fell from 18.8% in the second quarter in 2011 to 16.95 in the second quarter of 2012.In terms of smartphone units sold, Apple sold 26 million units in Q2 2012 compared to 20.4 million for the same period in 2011.

Many experts like IDC forecast that the main competition between Apple and Samsung will shift to emerging markets like China and India where smartphones are still in high demand. IDC also pointed out how the mobile phone market has completely shifted towards smartphones. It is hard to believe that only a few years ago Nokia dominated the mobile phone market and currently they are barely holding on to a 6.6% market share, Despite their attempts to enter the smartphone race with their Nokia Lumia, they still are struggling with only 10,2 million smartphones sold for the Q2 of 2012.

The future of online gambling like scratch cards are clearly set to be in the mobile smartphone market. It is already hard to believe that only until a short while ago the only option to scratch and win was while we were in front of a computer. We now have total control of our gambling habits and we can decide to choose whenever and from wherever we decide to enjoy our mobile scratchies and pokies.
