Real-money casinos and gambling companies have in the past few months being increasing their involvement with social free-to-play casinos. There is hardly a major gambling entity that has not made a move to increase their brand with some sort of social free-to-play casino offering. IGT  were the first major gambling company to invest heavily in social casinos with their much talked about acquisition of Double Down in January this year for a whopping $500 million.

There are two trains of thought regarding the merging of these two worlds. Supporters of gambling use thesocial casino sitesto attract potential real-money players. These free-to-play casino games are identical to their real-money counterparts and with a flip of a switch could be converted into real money gambling offerings if and when the legal situation allows it.

Opponents of gambling believe that the merging of these two worlds is a sinister move by casinos as it lures players in with the notion that these are only social games.

The latest major gambling company to adopt social casino games into their repertoire is that of UK based Betfair. The online betting exchange is looking to target the Canadian market and will launch a free-to-play product  with content provided by Play’n GO and will be available on Betfair Casino’ site.
Betfair’s Games Product manager Ashley Chase explained their thinking,” Betfair is and has always been a pioneering brand. We researched a number of games providers for and Play’n GO was the clear winner. Play’n GO games and their attention to providing superior, unique gaming experiences are an excellent fit with our brand.”

In turn Business development Director at Play’n GO ,Robert Skogh said,” We are happy to be selected to provide Betfair with our complete casino content for this unique project. The games can only be played for fun but players still have to log in to play. We look forward to a successful cooperation and a long-term partnership with Betfair.”

Whether you are an online gambling supporter or opponent there is no ignoring the reality that the idea of so-called free-to-play casino games are being looked at as a gateway to attract real-money gamblers.
